Welcome to your Daily Accountability Partner Journal!
This journal was inspired by a powerful piece of advice shared by Jack Canfield, co-creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series and author of The Success Principles. When I asked him how to sustain a high level of mental and spiritual well-being after a retreat, he encouraged me to reflect on what I had done differently during that week and to incorporate those meaningful practices into my daily life. His wisdom echoed what I once heard from John Maxwell, globally recognized leadership expert and best-selling author of more than 80 books. When someone expressed a desire to spend a day with him, he humorously responded, "It would be boring." He explained that success isn't built in a single day—it’s created in the small, consistent steps of a daily routine. Each day, John follows a purposeful rhythm: exercise, prayer, reflection, writing, teaching, and speaking. His routine reminds us that true growth stems from daily habits.
This insight brings to mind other great figures who prioritized accountability and routine. Benjamin Franklin, Founding Father and celebrated inventor, had a practice for holding himself accountable to key virtues. He set up a system to review his progress each evening, marking his dedication to each virtue in a way that allowed him to track his growth over time. Marshall Goldsmith, renowned executive coach and author of What Got You Here Won’t Get You There, followed his own accountability practice, arranging for a trusted colleague to call him each evening with a set of questions: “Did you tell your family you love them?” “Did you exercise?” “Did you meditate?” and so on.
If these accomplished individuals—people who have achieved remarkable success and mastery in their lives—follow such practices to build powerful habits, it shows the strength of an accountability system. If it works for them, it can work for us, too. With these examples as a guide, I designed this journal as your Daily Accountability Partner. This tool is here to help you track your routines, build consistency, and hold yourself accountable to the habits that will support your growth.
With gratitude,
Thanh Nguyen
